Artist Bio

(b. 1990, Seattle WA)

I recently left a 15 year career in technology to pursue art full time as a 2D arts educator and artist. I have received my fine arts certification from North Seattle College and currently pursuing my masters in secondary teaching with a fine arts endorsement from Seattle University. I grew up in many states in the Midwest and Appalachia and have lived on the west coast for most of my adulthood.

My experience behind closed doors working on machine learning and AI development fuels my creative process. I experienced first-hand the lack of humanity in senior level decision making and the roadblocks of being a woman trying to grow their career in the male dominated tech world. â€‹â€‹I am constantly ruminating on our relationship with nature and what it means to be a woman. I seek out connections to nature in my art from the lessons shared in Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I am inspired by feminist surrealist artists Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo and the forgotten works of British Pop artist Pauline Boty I share stories in my art with my use of repetitive patterns and animal imagery. My work is heavily influenced by the feminine experience and the emotions of living in patriarchy. I set the tone for each piece by carefully selecting the colors (often red and feminine pinks), figures, animals, and recognizable shapes to symbolize my reflections.

I make my 3D pieces using earthenware and glaze. My 2d pieces are made with gouache, acrylic, oils. I embellish my 2D pieces with collages of photos and magazine clippings to add contemporary elements to my work.
