Teaching for Equity E-Portfolio
Who I am as an educator for Social Justice

I am continuously self-reflecting on my own internalized racism and how I can be an agent of change in the classroom. As an educator, I want to disrupt the status quo of neoliberal ideology through the power of artistic expression. My lesson plans always center the identities of my students and de-center the classical white male traditions historically found in westernized art education. My lessons serve as a connection point for students to reflect on their own experiences, how they can use art as a tool for communication and expression, and how art has manifested from the experiences from those whose identities are of marginalized and oppressed groups.

I follow the Studio Habits of Mind, the Anti-Ableist Art Educators Manifesto, the ten rules of art making from Corita Kent, and use choice-based art practice in my classrooms. I make every project accessible to all students by decentering ableism and by providing multiple levels of entry that are not dependent on language learning levels.
