Moldy Man Mug, 2026

This is my demo piece from teaching a unit on the origins of the folk art of face jugs in American history. This piece is inspired by the way men are rotted from our history of enslaving others. The mold imagery was made by applying layered glaze that fluxes into a green hue in the facial features and teeth that replicates the color of mold. Iron oxide was applied around the mouth of the mug to create a dark dripping effect.
